This is nearly my last mailing to you about the Competition… Oh no! Why? I hear you say.

Well, the Competition closed on 24th May and from the excellent designs submitted by young and old the shortlist of flag designs was selected by our local panel of judges,  mentored by Philip Tibbets, Communities Vexillologist from the Flag Institute. The next step is the Public Voting at the Church and Community Fete at Marden on Sunday 23rd June. After that I’ll keep you informed on progress of registration, flag manufacture and flag raising ceremony.

An article in this week’s Hereford Times explained where we are now but importantly, acknowledged and thanked  our most recent Platinum sponsor: Harrison Clark Rickerbys Ltd., of Hereford. Grateful thanks to this well-known Hereford law firm for supporting the Competition and indeed to all our generous sponsors who are listed in full in the paper. Without their generosity the Competition could not have taken place. Thank you so much for your support!

Meanwhile, please see the links below which describe the judging and picture our local panel of judges making their final selections for the shortlist. The second link is courtesy of Leoni Linton of Ignite, Herefordshire who is organising the Herefordshire County Flag Competition. Leoni sat in on our judging because Herefordshire’s flag design shortlisting takes place later this month. I am sure you all join me in wishing Leoni, sponsors and supporters every success for the County Competition.

Now, don’t miss out. The public voting to select the final design for the Marden Flag is on 23 June at the Marden Church and Community Fete where all the designs submitted and Judges’ Awards for each of the three classes will be on show alongside the shortlist for voting. Anyone attending may vote. Voting opens at 12 noon. See you there!
