Marden Flag Competition – Latest News

The Competition to select a flag design for Marden has now begun with publication of the Competition rules and the Flag Institute’s design criteria. The hunt for Sponsors continues. Individuals and businesses in the parish who do become sponsors (and thus ‘Friends of the Flag’) will be acknowledged as well as having the pleasure of displaying the flag if they wish in publicity material, letterheads, even on their vans and premises.

CHANGES AND A FIRST FOR MARDEN

# NOTE NEW CLOSING DATE FOR ALL ENTRIES: FRIDAY 24th May 2019

Also, a small judging panel will consider all entries, select category winners and runners up and select 6 finalists from the whole field of entries to go forward to voting at the Church and Community Fete.

Following guidance from the Flag Institute it is necessary to make these changes to the format of the Marden Flag Competition. These small changes will enable clearance of the finalists’ designs: making sure that they conform to the Institute’s guidelines to check eligibility for registration and drawing them to the same standard so that we know what we are voting for and what the finished flag would look like. This needs to be done before they are made public for voting of the overall winner.

# MESSAGE TO THE MARDEN FLAG COMPETITION FROM THE FLAG INSTITUTE’ S COMMUNITIES VEXILLOLOGIST Mr Philip Tibbets:

“ ..Again I commend you for your efforts so far and I am confident that you have the basis for a good competition. It will be nice to see Herefordshire’s first village community flag registered and this will also mean that Marden will be one of the few communities in the country that can fly a full spectrum of geographical flags once the county flag competition is completed.

ENTRIES

Two entries have already been sent in – both are in the Over 60 category.
